The Next Generation

The Next Generation was undoubtedly the most popular Star Trek. This time set in the year 2364, 71 years after the last voyage of Captain Kirk and his crew. This time around we followed the adventures of Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his crew aboard the Galaxy Class U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D. This ship was the flagship of the United Federation of Planets, and included a holodeck, a bar, a captain's yacht and a means of separating the ship into two sections. The primary mission of this ship was to explore the Alpha Quadrant.

After a 7 year run, so far the longest of any Trek Series, The Next Generation ended when it was still on a high. After the series had ended, then followed "Star Trek: Generations", which was the first film to feature the Next Generation cast. The film also acted as a passing of the torch from the old cast to the new, marked with appearances by Walter Koenig as "Chekov", James Doohan as "Scotty" and William Shatner as "Captain Kirk". This film also saw the destruction of the Enterprise-D with Deanna Troi standing in at the helm and the crew kitted with a new style of uniform and a new comm badge. The film featured Malcolm McDowell as "Doctor Tolian Soran" and marked the first, and so far only, Big Screen Star Trek appearance of Whoopi Goldberg as the El-aurian "Guinan", but she will be appearing in the brand new Star Trek Movie, currently in production. Also starring in the next movie will be Wil Wheaton, marking the first Wesley Crusher movie outing.

Following the destruction of the Enterprise-D there was a new film with a new ship and, again, a new style of uniform. This new film, known as First Contact, saw the same crew of the previous Enterprise but this time aboard the new Sovereign class U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701-E. This movie saw the Enterprise travel back in time to the year 2063 to stop the borg from killing the inventor of the warp drive, Zefram Cochrane, thus destroying Starfleet before it originated and giving themselves the ability to assimilate Earth into their collective. This movie starred James Cromwell as "Zefram Cochrane". This film was directed by Jonathon Frakes whom also stars as "Commander Riker".

After defeating the Borg, Captain Picard proves his worth yet again and prevents the federation from corruption once more in the recently released "Star Trek: Insurrection". In this movie Picard and his crew broke starfleet orders, and protected the peaceful Baku against the horribly disfigured Son'a. This film starred F. Murray Abraham as Son'a leader "Ru'afo" and Antony Zerbe as "Admiral Dougherty". This film was also directed by Jonathon Frakes.
