Deep Space Nine
Deep Space Nine was a bold and brilliant new idea by Rick Berman. Deep Space Nine, Initially followed the adventures of Commander Benjamin Sisko, later promoted to Captain, and his Staff aboard the Space Station Deep Space Nine, and his handling of a self-discovered Wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant.
This was the first series to be set on a space station and initially was limited to the confines of the station due to having no starships assigned to the station, with the exception of the runabouts and, also no defences. But as the station became increasingy under threat from the federation's newest enemy, The Jem'hadar, Starfleet fitted the station with shields, quantum torpedoes and phasers and the station was also given an experimental warship fitted with a cloaking device and extremely agile. This ship was the U.S.S. Defiant NX 74205. This ship also gave rise to the opportunity to the extensive exploration of the Gamma Quadrant.
The final episode, the two-parter, What you leave behind, was released on home video in the UK on the 27th. of December 1999, with a special reversable sleeve. The episode was shown on Sky One in the UK in April 2000 and as yet has not been seen by anyone in the UK without the video, Sky, Cable or Digital.
The last six years have charted the story of space station Deep Space Nine, located near the only known stable wormhole in the
universe, a shortcut to previously unknown part of the galaxy, the Gamma Quadrant. Federation commander Benjamin Sisko & his
disparate crew of humans & aliens oversee the reconstruction of decimated planet Bajor after its occupation by the brutal
Cardassians; when the Bajoran Prophets, benevolent aliens who govern the wormhole, name him as their Emissary, he is drawn into
a complex network of interplanetary politics and a much greater destiny. .
The crew includes Bajoran first officer & former resistance fighter Kira Nerys, shapeshifting security officer Odo, family man/ engineer
Miles O'Brien, Ezri Dax, a composite alien who carries the memories of many previous lifetimes, including those of much-loved
predecessor Jadzia Dax, killed at the end of Season Six, tough Klingon & Next Generation favourite Worf, lovelorn Dr Bashir and the
wily bar-owner Quark. They have encountered strange new life-forms both friendly and hostile, explored the mysteries of the Gamma
Quadrant, met evil versions of themselves in the - Mirror Universe - and even travelled through time- one of DS9's most popular
episodes, Trials And Tribble-ations, saw Forrest Gump technology blend the characters into the original Star Trek episode The Trouble
With Tribbles.
The Dominion, an empire led by Odo's long-lost people, threatens to conquer the Alpha Quadrant & defeat seems almost inevitable.
New alliances are forged, old friendships tested and even the high ideals of the Federation itself are questioned as Section 31, a
sinister - black ops - unit, try to use Bashir as a pawn in their deadly games of intrigue. Sisko leads his people into a last, desperate
battle which will determine the fate of the galaxy but even if they are victorious, the Prophets warn him of a greater conflict which the
Emissary must face alone...

I recently had the opportunity to meet Andrew Robinson at a special signing in Glasgow. As a testament to the actor's popularity there was massive queues. At this time there was also 'as usual' a rainstorm and Mr. Robinson decided to cut short his shopping trip and begin the signing earlier. Here's his Autograph.
