Voyager

Voyager was another brave new step for the Star Trek Franchise. Featuring the first Woman Captain, The First Episode of Star Trek: Voyager (Caretaker) seen Captain Kathryn Janeway, played by Kate Mulgrew, who, incidently, was originally the second choice of the production team, behind Genevieve Bujold, who later pulled out of the show (bet she's sorry now), and the crew of the U.S.S. Voyager NCC 74656 transported into the Delta Quadrant by an alien species determined to find a suitable mate to care for the Ocampan race before he died. The crew of a maquis ship who were taken to the Delta Quadrant as well, left their ship and joined the Voyager crew.
 

This move by the Production crew left them for the first time with no series exploring the Alpha Quadrant, but at the same time left host to a whole load of alien races and new territory to explore. This also allowed the characters to show more emotion and to further relationships as it would take them over 70 years to reach home, there would be a need for procreation. This was also the first series to feature a Hologram as a regular character, in the form of the Emergency Medical Hologram, played by Robert Picardo.

In a successful bid to boost slightly flailing ratings, at the beginning of the fourth season, Rick Berman introduced sexy Borg character Seven-of-Nine, played by actress Jeri ryan.

Voyager completed it's seven year run last year. The season ended with the crew finally reaching home with a bit of borg assistance. Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway) will make an appearance in the next Star Trek film as Admiral Janeway.

• Nightingale - Harry takes Command of an Alien Ship
• Shattered - A temporal anomaly strikes
• Lineage - Tom and B'Elanna come to blows
• Repentence - Janeway questions the prime directive
• Prophecy - The crew encounter Klingons which left Qo'Nos 200 years ago
• The Void - Voyager becomes trapped in a dark void with no escape.
