The Modern Studies Club
For several years the Modern Studies club has taken First and Second year pupils to
exciting places that they would, usually, not have access to. Visits take place once a
month and will include The Herald Newspaper, News International, Wiseman Dairies,
Glasgow Airport and the ever popular Barrs Irn-Bru visit.
This year the first visit of the session was to Strathclyde Police. A group of 20 pupils visited the Police HQ, in Cumbernauld, on 12 September for a behind the scenes tour. The Second visit of the session was to another of the emergency services, Strathclyde Fire Service. This 'hands on' tour of the Fire Station in Greenfaulds took place on Friday 29th. September.
This year there has been an exceptional interest in the visit to Barr's Irn-Bru factory in
Westfield. As a result there will now be four visits to the soft drinks factory. Highly
enjoyable and educational visits have already taken place on October 26th and November
23 and December 14th. Another visit is planned for January 22nd.
There was also a recent visit to Broadwood stadium, home of Scottish division 1 football
team, Clyde FC. Here the pupils received a tour of the stadium and witnessed a player
training session. This visit took place on Thursday 16 November.
Recently announced were the visits to Glasgow Airport, on January 23rd, and News International, on January 30th.
Over 100 pupils joined the Modern Studies Club in the first month of the term, making it the biggest club in the school.
