Stand By Me Poster

"I was twelve going on thirteen the first time I saw a dead human being. It happened in the summer of 1959. A long time ago, but only if you measure it in terms of years. I was living in a small town in Oregon called Castle Rock. There were only 1281 people, but to me it was the whole world...."

Released theatrically in 1986, "Stand By Me" is a story of unswerving friendship and a loss of innocence, a tale of four friends on the brink of adolescence. The film commences in the modern day with a successful writer (played as an adult by Richard Dreyfuss and as a child by Wil Wheaton) musing over the recent and tragic murder of his childhood friends Chris Chambers (River Phoenix). This event triggers Gordon Lachance's memory and he is transported back to a long hot summer weekend in 1959.

When they were twelve, Gordie, Chris, Vern Tessio (Jerry O'Connell) and Teddy Duchamp (Corey Feldman) were inseperable friends, compelled by an unspoken bond and yet each burdened by his own emotional baggage. Whiling away another long hot day in an endless summer and prompted by a conversation overheard by Vern, the fearless quartet decide to go on an adventure in the hope of becoming heroes and having their faces in the papers (as well as seeing a dead body).Their mission is to find local boy Ray Brower. Sparked by curiosity, the events that unfold will change their lives forever.
